| Case Study: St. Luke's Hospital |
| The Challenge St. Luke's Hospital needed a nurse call system for their Allentown campus in the labor and delivery unit. This project presented many unique challenges. The unit could not be shut down to allow the work to be done. All work needed to be performed in strict compliance with the hospital's infection control protocols regarding containment of air-borne dust. Also, since the unit is often subject to wide and unexpected fluctuations in census, the entire unit needed to remain completely operational during installation. This meant there could be no disruption of nurse call communication between staff and patients. An interim nurse call solution was required during removal of the old system and installation of the new solution. |
 The SolutionSt. Luke's turned to CSI in order to meet the unique challenges posed by installing a system in this area. The solution called for turn-key installation of a complete Rauland Responder IV nurse patient communication system. CSI worked closely with the St Luke's staff to coordinate scheduling of the work around census changes and during hours that were least disruptive to patients and staff. The technicians on the job had to be sensitive in working with the staff to ensure the safety of the patients and newborns by checking in with the staff, wearing ID badges at all times. Portable tents were deployed to prevent any unwanted dust from contaminating the area. The staff was furnished with a temporary wireless nurse call system while the Responder IV was being installed. Once completed, the new solution also provided the facility with code blue and code pink functionality. Each of these calls were configured to be a part of the centralized code blue system. This also provided another point of annunciation at the switchboard of the hospital. At the completion of the project, training was provided to all the staff using the system across multiple shifts of the hospital. |
